who knows...

Now I'm trying to put a photo up for the third time - either my computer, TF technical or me is terribly stupid !Actually, our house should be finished by the end of tis month - yep, then work really starts! Just to get it furnished and decorated. Well, for the furnishing and the technical things, I am the one, BUT for the decoration like curtains, wallpapers etc. my lovely wife will do... :)****! With the pic, it still does not work! Sorry about that, guys and gals! (whoever might be interested

Who had...?

Who of you had the great privilege of having a father for more than 51 years? I had! And he was a great father, well with his good and not so good sides but only the one who is without any fail may throw the first stone. This night, my father passed away, luckily (although his cancer and the subsequent treatment with more and more hard medications) having been mentally ok and also being (although decreasingly) mobile until four days ago and after that, a bit disturbed but still recognizing his f

Which kind of traveler are you?

As I am a frequent traveller out of several reasons and I could see a lot of different types of travellers, it came to my mind to set up a poll about this. Specifications of the basic categories I identified are to be found at http://www.thailandfriends.com/group.php?discussionid=95&do=discuss and the poll, you can find at http://www.thailandfriends.com/showthread.php/47272-Which-kind-of-traveller-are-you Hope that there will be quite some replies as a lot of those being online here are

Where have all the pics gone???

Since three or four days, I cannot see any pics any more, only the "no default picture" sign or some error icon. Do you have the same experience or is it just my computer that has gone gaga? Funny enough, pics embedded in journals or forums I can see, same with all other webpages. Only TF excludes me from my main source of information (as I never have learned how to read). Even my own profile tells me "no default picture"...grrrr.....

What happened to the TF Server?

Since three days or so, TF pages are awfully slow in loading, sometimes even resulting in timeouts. As I do not experience this with other pages, there might be something wrong with the server. Any similar experiences?

Western Sahara - a good experience!

Since three weeks now I am in Western Sahara (a country disputed between Morocco, Mauretania and the Frente Polisario (a Freedom Movement). Let aside the political issue, the living conditions and the UN system, the desert is great! Behind every hill and every dune, the landscape changes and I am very lucky to find myself here after heavy rainfalls, so some parts of the area are really green! Have you ever seen a sunset in the desert? Well, I cannot describe it, but you can see every colour poss

Well, well,well!

My dear friends! During the last days I got a lot of votes - thank you to everybody! Most probably I will not be able to keep up as voting for me is faster than I am online. Whatever happens - I LOVE YOU ALL!!!

Wat Chedi Hoi - something special!

Initially, I thought that Arlai just wanted to take me to another temple. But soon I found out, that Wat Chedi Hoi (meaning the Chedi of shells) really is something special. See details and pics here: http://www.thailandfriends.com/group.php?discussionid=217&do=discuss ==============

Vienna public transport

Are you interested in technical stuff concerning public transport? Do you like technical stuff from grandpa's time until today? Do you like Vienna? And if you can't answer this question because you do not know Vienna - would you like to know Vienna? If yes, the following might be interesting for you: http://www.thailandfriends.com/group.php?discussionid=203&do=discuss Actually, this line does not exist anymore. It is not called "J" anymore but "2" and they have changed its routing

Up, up and away!

Ok, now it is coming close. The boxes are packed, they got me the ticket and arranged everything for my two-days travel and now I am doing my last preparations. One last voting spree  (well, maybe there might be one more tomorrow evening) and then I am ready to leave for Kabul. Will be interesting to see the changes since 2002, although I do not expect much change to the better. As I see, there will not be much time and opportunity to get online on TF during the next six months, so take care and

Trip to Chachoengsao

Yesterday, we did a trip to Chachoengsao, to the (very obviously) famous Wat Saton, where my wife did some merits. Already the temple is worth going, maybe not on Sundays, because it's crowded, but Arlai told me that last time she went on a Saturday and there it was fine.  At the parking lot, a guy was handing out flyers for a sand sculpture exhibition and we went there after the temple. This piece really is worth going! It is small but very beautiful and interesting; and the entrance fee of TH

Traveller's Group

Well, maybe it's not too bad to do a bit of promotion. I have set up a group aimed at travellers to share experiences, funny, bad, dangerous and good stories. Up to now, nine TFers have found and joined it, maybe there are some more out there who are interested? Initial topics have been set up but everyone is free to add his two cents (maybe even two dollars). You are all most (NOT almost!) welcome! http://www.thailandfriends.com/group.php?groupid=34

Time to say Good Bye!

After a long time that lead the two of us not only across Europe but also the Middle East, it is time to separate. After 19 years and ten months, I decided to get a younger fellow who from now on will be under my lead when moving along. Not that I hate the old one or lost my feelings, but at a certain age, more and more little things undermine the once trusted reliability. Also, he drinks more than the younger fellow I will be with soon. But still I hope that my long-time companion will get into

Time is flying!

So, after one year in the Western Sahara and eight months in Afghanistan, I am "free" again! It was an interesting time and I don't want to have missed that, but now, it is time to concentrate on my own things. Well, it is work again, although not paid.... The shower cabin will arrive next week, the kitchen should be ready at the end of the month - given that I fix all the electric connections before that. And then, we have to organize a company who will build our terrace and fix the roof over i

The Ultimate Xmas Present!

So if you and your beloved ones don't know anymore where to put the money, there's one proposal (except for my generous offer to take all money not needed):
