The Gruffalo's Child

The Gruffalo said that no gruffalo should Ever set foot in the deep dark wood. "Why not? Why not?" "Because if you do, The Big Bad Mouse will be after you. I met him once." said the Gruffalo. "I met him a long, long time ago."   "what does he look like? Tell us, Dad. Is he horribly big and terribly bad?   "I can't quite remember," the Gruffalo said. Then he thought for a minute and he scratched his head. "The Big Bad Mouse is terribly strong And his scaly tail is terribly long. His eyes are like

China with a twist

Discovered this guy's work completely by accident as Annie Lennox namechecked the album on Jools Holland. The guy's name is Ian Widgery and he has produced David Bowie, Faithless and Human League among others. Over the last few years he has experimented with a lot of Chinese sounds, particularly singers from the 1920's. First 2 vids are from the Shanghai Lounge Divas albums, with a track from his latest project and his Bowie remix thrown in for free.

more rawkkkkkkk!!

since everyone seems to be on a rock tip this evening, thought I'd chip in too.Featuring arguably one of the best drummers of all time in Neal Peart and definitely the greatest rock bassist in Geddy Lee, Canada's Rush are often overlooked in the lists of all time greats. (and credit to Alex Lifeson too - an often underrated but brilliant guitarist) First up the amazing YYZ, with a superb percussion solo towards the end of the clip.  Followed by Freewill since its one of my all time fave

another BBC first...

Last night saw the start of the new BBC series 'South Pacific' (nothing to do with the musical) looking at life in and around the South Pacific ocean.Highlight of the first episode had to be the amazing HD footage shot from underneath a 4 meter wave, the first such footage ever shot. The cameraman is Bali Strickland and the surfer is Dylan Longbottom (where do these Aussies find these names??)

Taking over daddy's journal...Part VIII

The second part of my week with daddy today. We decided to go and visit Grandma in Linlithgow. Linlithgow is a lovely little town between Glasgow and Edinburgh, full of pretty shops and houses. It was a really nice day, so we went down to Linlithgow Loch. It was very pretty with Linlithgow Palace up on the hill. The loch was busy with fishermen and people sailing. But I wanted to feed the ducks and swans. A nice family of swans came over for some bread. So I gave them some too.But this one wasn't i

Taking over daddy's journal...Part VII

A long one today, and first of 2 parts, as have just had a nice long holiday at daddy's house. He says he needs some medication after this week, but I have never seen a medicine called 'bourbon' before...At the start of the week, it was very rainy, so we went off to the transport museum...First I saw an old Grand Prix car, and it used to be driven by someone called Jackie Stewart. Daddy got excited by this, but the only Jackie I know is my friend from nursery...They have streets made to look lik

Beltane again!!!

Time to get the warm jumper off and celebrate Beltane again, so a late night, roaring bonfires, plenty of mead and lots of semi naked people covered in paint ahead for me!! Beltane is the anglicized spelling of Bealtaine or Bealltainn the Gaelic names for either the month of May or the festival that takes place on the first day of May.In Irish Gaelic the month of May is known as Mí Bealtaine or Bealtaine and the festival as Lá Bealtaine ('day of Bealtaine' or, May Day'). In Scottish Gaelic the m

Taking over daddy's journal...Part VI

Daddy managed to find a load of old pics he thought he had lost. I did tell him I didn't want them posted because I look so, well, young in them. But the stubborn old sod didn't listen and said he was posting anyway. (I'll get my revenge - who do you think will be choosing his nursing home when he goes senile?) First up is a pic of the night I was born...and this is the first time daddy held me. Altogether now; awwwwwwwww.  I did a lot of sleeping those first few weeks, and sh*tting, crying and f

random females...

well, saying random isn't exactly true. Was on a bit of a female vocal tip tonight; listening to everything from soul to trance, pop to chill out, and thought I'd pick a few of my favourite female singers to annoy you with on a Sunday morning!! First up is the wonderful Annie Lennox, with a version of Little Bird from this tear's BBC sessions. Next is Kate Bush with her wicked video for Cloudbusting starring the strange Mr Donald Sutherland. 3rd is Candi Staton, You got the love. Although not th

Happy Birthday Andy Bell!!

It's Andy Bell of Erasure's birthday today, so a good excuse to stick on a couple of classic Erasure tracks. Consisting of Andy and Vince Clarke (ex Depeche Mode and Yazoo) Erasure were an extravagant slice of 80's electro-pop. Their live gigs were always completely OTT and full of more costume changes than most acts I can think of!! Enjoy!!

BMX meets Parkour

Saw this guy through in Edinburgh a few weeks a go. His name is Danny MacAskill and he is one of the leading street riders around at the moment. Street riding/street trials is sort of like parkour, but on a specially adapted mountain bike. It's great to see the looks on peoples faces when he suddenly takes his bike off a bridge or over a drop. The move off the tree in the first video is stunning!!

Lest we forget...

Thousands of people are to gather on Merseyside to remember the 96 Liverpool football fans killed in the Hillsborough disaster 20 years ago. The supporters were crushed to death on 15 April 1989 during Liverpool's FA Cup semi-final tie with Nottingham Forest at the stadium in Sheffield. Victims' families, survivors and players past and present will gather at Anfield for a remembrance service. During the event candles will be lit for each of the victims of the tragedy. Kenny Dalglish, Liverpool's

music is...

...my passion. And musically, it's been a very good couple of weeks. First I got the news that 2 of my tracks may be featured on a forthcoming compilation album. One of them will definitely appear, and that same track has also been shortlisted to go on the 4 track promo vinyl to be released. Then on Wednesday, I took delivery of my new theremin!! What a toy, though a bit of panic as it was only 2 days to my first live gig in over a year, so had to get used to it quickly.Although my set was only sc

Metropolitan Police kill again!

Once again, and despite the condemnation of their overreactions to the De Menezes case, the Metropolitan Police have proven that they are the haven for the thugs and bully boys who love to wear uniforms. Long known by protesters as being the most violent of police forces, the death of Ian Tomlinson, AN INNOCENT BYSTANDER on his way home from work, shows the general public the levels that the Met will stoop to. They have already told lies about this incident, claiming protesters impeded medical a

It's good to be right sometimes. Brought Laidback Luke to Glasgow about 18 months ago and he played a stormer. For that gig he cost 500 GBP plus flights and hotel. Now his fee is up to 3000 GBP plus flights and hotel!!!  Going to be one of the biggest DJs of this summer and is riding high in the charts with his co-remix of Robyn S...

Australian Radio phone competition

This got the whole of Sydney laughing. Read it and you'll see why! Just imagine sitting in traffic on your way to work and hearing this. Many Sydney folks DID hear this on the FOX FM morning show in Sydney. The DJs play a game where they award winners great prizes. The game is called 'Mate Match'. The DJs call someone at work and ask if they are married or seriously involved with someone. If the contestant answers'yes',he or she is then asked 3 random yet highly personal questions. The person

Taking over daddy's journal...Part V

It's been a busy week for me, and since daddy has fallen asleep on the couch (thinking he will be awake for the F1, but he's forgotten the clocks go forward - ha ha) I decided to sneak downstairs and fill you all in on my latest adventures.Guess what?? I AM 3!!!!! Yes, it was my birthday this week and I have had such a full social diary with days out and parties and lots of presents, and tomorrow I am going to a pirate party on a real tall ship!!!
