In Thai culture each day of the week is assigned a color. According to belief, the day of your birth is your color. The colors are derived from the god who protects that day. For instance, HM King Bhumibol was born on a Monday (December 5 1927) so his color is Yellow. This is why many Thais wear yellow shirts on Mondays in Thailand. Blue shirts worn on Friday are a show of respect for HM Queen Sirikit who was born on August 12, 1932, a Friday. Pink was traditionally worn on Tuesdays for King Chulalongkorn but has gained new popularity after HM King Bhumibol was shown leaving the hospital in 2007 wearing a bright pink blazer. Many wear pink on Tuesdays to wish the king good health.

Day of the Week Color Protecting God
Sunday Red Surya
Monday Yellow Chandra
Tuesday Pink Mangala
Wednesday Green Budha
