Why some people just always act like they can't think but only wait for someone to tell what's to do, left or right!  I think my company has problem with staffs in operation teams and management team... The operation staffs won't do anything without getting paper approval, sometime even we got them email approval but still they need someone to sign off on the paper again to cover their ass! duh~ else they will keep calling and calling every 5 mins.. Because of this, it got us lots of extra work and sometime with some simple case took a day time to solve when it actually should not need longer than 10 minutes!  Operation won't do anything untill they seen all approvals, (1)verbally from an officer, (2)email approval plus (3)local officer(s) to sign off on the application form or another person who can make them happy is (4)Legal Counsel arghhhhhh Excuse me! WE'RE NOT A GOVERNMENT ORGANIZATION! All staffs practiced to be the same, don't do any transaction before you can be sure that you won't have to take responsibility yourself but someone else! Find someone to cover your ass!! Do it! Do it!! They don't even know why need an approval apart from to cover themselve, I meant everyone should understand every action they have done not just because someone said so. Sometime they called and called again and asked for the account manager of an account, said need to use credit facility, when I asked which facility and what's happening? They just gone... "ermm... oh! I will call back later" they stop calling suddenly and get someone else call back after an hour. (why they can wait that long suddenly? Plus why they calling without knowing what they need exactly and why?) Apart from we need more staffs to serve clients, I think my team need more staff to serve the operation teams too. Actually officer level and operation team speak totally different language... re-organization is urgently needed! For everyone' sake. 15 minutes ago, my cutie co-worker just rang me said that she can't get in the office, security girl didn't let her in because no her name in the list. (Non-Officer level has to get approval before get in the office on weekend), of course she got approval but no one put in the list for some reason, so I had to ring their boss and he said he approved already since yesterday!  For some stupid reason when I rang back to my co-worker after off the phone with senior one, they just let her in.. Why they have to get me being such a *****! It does work sometime when you just mention their boss name and everything done perfectly but it's not a nice thing to do. Many things going on at work, not only me who got all exhausted... something need to be done.

I've never worked in Thailand before, so I don't really know. But I guess culture can play a big role in the work place - how hand-on people are in doing their jobs or how much decision-making was delegated from higher up. From my experience here in the U.S., I think people tend to be more aggressive and they really put you on spot. So, you really have to know your **** 'cause there's not much room for screw-up.

This is not just in Thailand. In my last "proper" job (with a very large MNC), no one wanted to make a decision for fear of the consequences! Every Monday there was a 1-hour video conference involving up to 10 highly-paid people. The conferences usually achieved nothing, except being able to report that we followed the instructions and had the conference! I did not earn any merit points by asking "what's wrong actually doing the job, rather than talking about it"

Now, I teach adults - but it is more about being seen to comply with procedures and tick all of the boxes on the governments' list of how things should be done. A lot of it is wrong - but right up to the highest levels, no one would dare to question things - even if they are obviously wrong. More about following orders than actually doing the job! Echoes of Nazi Germany!

There are idiots everywhere not only Thailand. I had dealt with people in one of the top business schools in England and you wouldn't believe how unorganized they are handling easy tasks.

I don't think our education system and attitude towards learning are that bad. I am a product of Thai education, government school and government university - I don't think I come out in a bad shape.

Maybe our experience told us what we should be cautious about and that's why we created long process to back it up. If you want to make it quicker, easier, you have to sit down and dicuss it with people who are involved and see their point why do we need to do this and that and what is the other solution to come up with the same result but more practical and effective. Like you said, you think you are smarter than them, why don't you make it happen? be a leader, show them how you can make it different, if will benefit your company and yourself more than just moaning about it here.

It's also because of the way Thai family have raised the child too!! As we know many families are very conservative and most parents always think for their kids. Tell them to do this and not to do that!!!! It is even worse when it without any reasons. Then kids didn't learn how to think by themself. YOu miht see when someone will have to make a decision, then that one might said " Oh I have to ask my parents first" :-(

Difficult Conversation is a must to read!

I partly agreed with some of what you guys saying, final decision is with the senior management when one who operating thing is not really ones who get to discuss with senior so the only way they can get proper approval is ring staff in lower level than senior to get what they want without talking to senior directly.. but operation should learn what the policy said too, not just wait for Banker else work got stuck, plus clients' instruction can't be hold.

So it bcoz of Senior always right, therefore we need to get them say yes in every fuking things? I dont think they would love to approve every stuff that happenning in the company plus my co is not small one. My boss would fight for the right thing, (yeah she's smart and so she can deal with it) sometime we have to do conference again and again to get Risk Management team say yes with what we will do.. but the way my boss deal with risk team and the way operation team deal with us is totally different.

yeah right, not many times ppl noticed what u have done when things done even u had to spend whole day dealing with it... No one gonna talk the thing that just simply processed but once things went wrong, there you go they will find out who engage with the case.. thats why some ppl really scared of doing anything..

not that I dont understand about this and that's why I get sick of this kind of thing, sometime I spent a day and half to solve the case, when they want approval from 3-4 different ppl, I have to do my best to get it, meant every procedure, I have to take care of it myself.

Im a stupid one and I'm smarter than some in operation team.. know what I mean.

I studied in Government Schools since M.1 and I can't even get in the top ranked uni or any government uni, so I graduated from Rajabhat..

If we doing things based on what we've experienced then it is something to do with education system.. school, uni are where we learnt thing and they are the first places we experienced things. Becoz I never experienced the education in any other country then I can only mentioned Thailand and unfortunately most systems here in Thailand following UK way so we should compare with another country..

Guess I have to keep moaining about this as I'm just a lil girl in this big company.. I hate to be the middle person between officer level and operation!!!! Im in between these 2 levels which mean Im not totally stupid and not really smart either..

thanks for all comments, its good to discuss about some serious issue.. I'm glad you guys said something..
