Near Miss

A near miss is an unplanned event that did not result in injury, illness, or damage - but had the potential to do so. Only a fortunate break in the chain of events prevented an injury, fatality or damage. It happened to me not long time ago.Case 1 At the Railway,I was driving to work in the morning (rush hour) on the street which connected to Petchaburi Road. The police stopped the cars in my direction. So it made me stopped at the railway.... then I saw train was coming closer and closer, and the police didn't let me go... i think he saw me strucked there cuz it wasn't far from him about 50 meters. GOSH!  I scared may be **** run up to my head...  I had no choice... I just drove to another lane. (the opposite lane) Just took a chance for survival. I think let another car hit me was better than let the train hit me, right?Case 2 At somewhere near Cental WorldI was walking from Platinum to Cental World.... I sprained my ankle and my flipflop was torn right in front of BMW which was driving from Cental World car park...  He could break not farther than 30 CM. from me. I could hear my friend screaming that time. I didn't know what to do... cuz just took my flipflop off and ran out with bared feet. hehe...äÃèä´é´Ù´Ç§¡èùÃá¨Ò¡ºéÒ¹ÃèÃ

I have worked in this area for 8 years now and I can tell you that the police themselves are responsible for many of the accidents on the road because of their incompetence. Basically they are a waste of oxygen.

Thais are renowned for being Jai-Yen, which is cool, but it is clearly evident that when they get behind the wheel of a vehicle that changes: For what reason I do not know but would say its a mixture of incompetence, impatience and arrogance. The more expensive the car, the more arrogant.

This habit of stopping as close as you can to whatever, is disturbing too. I cannot fathom a reason for it except it is saying: "You are lucky I stoppped! I could have ran you over and then paid off the cops" (Case study: Muham). Its like raising your fist at someone but not actually hitting them. I'm sure that driver of the BMW was trying to scare you! He could have stopped much farther away but that would not have made his point to you! You made him 30 seconds late for some appointment he was going to.

if you're driving, it's called defensive techniques.....that will save you.

if you're walking, watch out for all the motorbikes on the sidewalk!!

thank god, we have better laws and traffic control by the police.............lol

Gotta agree about the police. I saw an accident this morning on Srinakarin Rd because a policeman stepped into the middle lane to stop someone (for no reason other than to take money).

That car slammed on the brakes, the car in front of me swerved into our lane (from the Thai driving manual - 'in the event of your lane becoming blocked just swerve in a brain dead manner into the adjacent lane without looking in advance to see if it is safe or not - braking and looking into the mirrors is NOT an option!') and hit the car in front of me.

Nice side-swipe. 100% caused by the baht-hungry corrupt a-wipe in brown!!!

Walking from Platinum to Central World you dont actually cross any roads - only driveways, all of which have guards advising you when to cross - so was the BMW wrong or were you crossing when you shouldn't???

I could of course be wrong...

(I love that walk - from Chitlom BTS to Pantip Plaza - although the fantastic noodle store across from Platinum seems to be gone??)
