This is my manual camera... It's the first camera that I have. As I always say, I did not come from a wealthy family, so I have to do job to make money by myself. It remind me think about the old time, I got to study communication arts (journalism), so camera was needed. Yes, I got scholarship but camera was excluded. Best way I could do, I find a job... 17 years old, I work as a graphic designer, at a plastic bag factory, my luck I didn't know how to design so my uncle taught me how to do it. I was very very cheap labor, 150 baht / art work.Price of Pentax K1000 with normal lens was 8,000 baht. So art work job wasn't enough, So Saturday and Sunday I worked with questionaire... for people who wanted to do research. I could remember, First questionaire was about tyre. I had to sit in car parks, wait for interview the drivers.I got this camera from my sweat, lolzzz.. It's not luxury one like Nikon, but it was the best I could get that time. I always believe good pictures come from the eyes, brain, and hand 70% the rest is from good camera. I have seen many people carry around very best camera, top modale but don't have any idea about taking pictures. So lucky that we have digital camera these day, you can see what you take right away. For now I really have no idea what to do with it. Sell it? or Keep it?

If I sell it right now, I don't think I can get more than 500 baht. If I keep it I'm not sure I will take photos with it. PhotobucketThis is the pic that digital camera can't do. hehe.

I posted it somewhere in my journal. It's picture of Day time and Night time in the same frame and I think this is the last project that I use this camera. Photobucket

Keep it of course!! You got that camera from your sweat and you've learnt how to take photo with it! This must be a great souvenir...

Or you can give it to someone who wants to learn photography. A manual camera is certainly better tool to learn that a fully automatic cam...

you can change body but lens can still use.. They are made for Pentax.

What would be the point of value to sell something like this camera entangled with so many memories ? 50,000 bath ?

It takes little space and you wouldn't get much money for it versus the good memories you have with it.

In the years to come, you could find it and then those memories will flood back as you handle it with all it's weight and textures ...

I still have my Nikon FM2 and although I haven't used it in years I won't give it away because it is one of the best pieces of kit I ever bought. One day I'll get tired of digital cameras and start using the Nikon again.

So yes, keep it definitely. Sure digital SLR's are expensive still but I do fancy one of them new Pentax K20D's. 8)

Ya, the K1000 was the child of my Asahi Pentax Spotmatic II. I got my Spotmatic II in 1972 in trade for an early 1950's Leica that needed restoration way above my budget. I think the K1000 came around five years later and was in production until the late 1990's. My Spotmatic bit the dust almost literally at the bottom of the Grand Canyon... hopefully yours will have a happier ending!
