A Kiss-Off to online dating

Despite being a member of TF for 4 years or more I have never dated anyone over the internet and I guess part of that is the reason is that doing it online you can create impressions and expectations that cannot be fulfilled in a cyber world.

Have a look at this ABC News article from Feb 2008:

http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/PCWorld/story?id=4282014

While it is funny it does demonstrate the weirdos you can meet (most of them men). But even sadder than that is the scammers who are now amongst the online dating sites, have a look at this article from MSNBC:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8704213/

But then I came across a Business Week article last year predicting the decline of online dating sites and the rise of Social Networking sites and it started like this:

"Dear Online Dating Sites,

I am writing to tell you it's over between us. It's not you. You've been great. You've helped me connect

millions of happy couples and no one can take that away.

It's just that?well, I've changed. My needs and users are different now. And you were right when you asked

about my relationship with MySpace and Facebook. I can't ignore the feelings I have for them any longer.

Please don't be hurt. We had a good run, and you'll always be a part of me. But I'm moving on. I hope we can

still be friends.

Love always, The Internet"

(the full article can be seen at http://www.businessweek.com/technology/content/nov2007/tc20071120_688300.htm)

Now I'm not sure what your impressions are but I feel there is a distinct reason why people join an online dating site and that is mostly to hook up with or looking for a long term partner.

Personally I like TF because TF is one of the few top quality and reliable dating sites that don't have too many ads on the site at the center of the content. But I'm not sure that it isn't really turning into a Social Networking site as well because not all members are here looking for a partner.

Me too... I have been on TF for 4 years.

I dated a girl right at the start who didn't work out. Since then I use it for forums, journals, Thai social questions, translations, language lessons, events planning and networking.

I spend most time communicating with a bunch of very funny, smart, non-Thai guys. We have blazing rows and heated discussions. We take the piss out of each other mercilessly. We disagree about everything and we drive each other crazy...

But we're back online the next day to do it all over again!!!

I met a couple of nice TF friends. And it's soo funny coz my most of my friends are members of TF, but we never knew about it, until one of our guy friends who was searching for a TF friend saw our profiles here. And then he was the one who told that "You, you, you , you blah blah you girls are all on TF!!!" After that he never bothered to use TF anymore coz some of the girls here are also his friends.55555!

A year ago I dated a girl from TF. She was I discovered mentally ill - seriously. A pathological liar with 'borderline bipolar disease' I think (not related to manic depression except by name) She told me convincingly she was terminally ill with bone marrow cancer (which months later I discovered was a lie). She had researched the whole disease and was very knowledgeable and convincing. In the three weeks I knew her she cut her wrists, camped out on my corridor, headbutted the wall, sent me an email posing as her psychiatrist, faxed me at work, emailed my colleagues and turned up at my place of work (in a dangerously calm mood). She is no longer active on this site. It was very disturbing. I'm quite sure I wasn't the only one who dated her.

Hahaha Nathan send me her #. Judging by my history, I'll meet her in 2 weeks anyway. But you know, the sex was the best you had, wasn't it?

There are plenty of nuts everywhere, you missed my topic (dead now) are Thai girls crazy.

LOL
