Free Thai lesson 3 Answer your questions
I found this on internet .......
A young foreigner meets a Thai girl for lunch. She does the wai and he returns the gesture. To go back to his hotel he hails a taxi. The older driver, upon receiving a good tip, wais him, then drives off. The foreigner waves his hand to mean 'never mind.'
Some days later, the girl invites him to her house. An old man walks out and she introduces her father, whom he instantly recognizes as none other than the taxi driver.
Now, should the westerner, say a manager of some firm (status), recognizing the taxi-driver father (elder person), wai first? Or not wai but mumble something in English as a detour? Or merely extend a hand for a handshake? Do nothing to see what happens first?
Before he can sort himself out, a woman looking younger than he walks in and his girlfriend introduces the woman as her stepmother. Should he wai this younger woman first or wait for her to do it first? An elderly woman now comes in and it turns out she is the chief servant. He becomes confused. Wai quickly?

OK now WAI or not WAI
The answer is WAI
But how?
1. the status come first
2. then you have should those 3 kinds of WAI depend on their age and status
A. She did WAI because she is younger than you (as you are her bf or lover ,Thai girl do respect her man as a father or a brother)- so your status is higher than her and your age as well
B. the taxi driver did WAI you was right, you were his customer and he WAI you for saying thank you (customer is more important)
C. you came to her house and saw the taxi driver who is her father you were in the same status as her (think about you are going to be son-in-law) and you are younger than him so you should WAI him (WAI as he is someone older than you- see my lesson 1)
D. a woman younger than you came and said she is her step mother ,so her status is higher than you.You have to WAI her first (WAI as she is someone younger than you- see my lesson 1)
E. In the case that servant came and she older than you her status is lower so she may WAI you first and you have to WAI back (WAI as she is someone older than you- see my lesson 1)---- *** for nice Thai men they may WAI someone older than them first show that he is a respectful person

Mr. B he asked ?What did you say before you had ?SAWADDEE???
Answer
1. We said ä» ä˹ ÃÃ’ ?PAI NAI MA? = where did you go?
ä» PAI = go
ä˹ NAI~ = where, question tag
ÃÃ’ MA = come, (this word make the sentence as ?it already happened?)
Why did we ask? It was not our business? but we ask this because we just want to know if they are ok. When someone walk pass and you ask ?where did you go?? they will stop and tell you if they have something in their mind then you can help them(most of thai ppl do care of others more than caring themselves)
MR. D : ?where did you go? -ä» ä˹ ÃÃ’ ?PAI NAI MA?
FAY : ?I went to hospital? ? ©Ñ¹ ä» âç¾ÂÒºÒÅ ÃÃ’ CHAN PAI RONG PA YA BAN MA
THEN MR. D CAN ASK HER ABOUT GOING TO HOSPITAL
MR. D: ?Why??
FAY: ?My step father is not well?
THEN HE KNEW
MR. D: ?tell me if you cannot afford that??
2. We said ¡Ô¹ ¢éÒÇ ¡Ñ¹ ?KIN KHOA KAN? = join my food?
¡Ô¹ (KIN)= eat
¢éÒÇ(KHOA)= rice, also mean food (rice is Thai main dish)
¡Ñ¹ (KAN)= together, with
When we have meal ,we can talk and know about each other as same as saying PAI NAI MA but while you are eating you can touch each other heart easily (eating make us happy and feel good ,that is right?) you both can get close easily
