End of an Era?

All over Bangkok, Mexican food fans are crying into their chimichangas...Drunk, white girls are calling their friends, desperately asking each other, "What are we going to do every Tuesday, now?"And literally several Thai girls are saying, "Oh, yeah.  That guy... I kinda remember him.  The bald one, right?"

What could the reason be for this sadness?  Why this terrible grief?Well.... English_Bob is leaving BangkokSurprised!! I changed my profile a few days ago and I'm surprised that anyone noticed, but they did.  And they asked me what is going on...A few months ago, a guy came down to Charley Brown's and made me an offer I couldn't refuse...He is a representative for Bed Supperclub on Soi 11.  Bed are opening a new club/restaurant in Patong, Phuket.  And he asked me if I'd be interested in applying for the job.I immediately agreed to apply, but I wasn't confident - it just seemed to good to be true...But I sent in my resume, had an interview and a few weeks ago was offered the job.... It took so long to get a contract signed, I thought they had chosen someone else.  And so I convinced myself I never wanted the job anyway... I said, "It's going to be too stressful.  I like my life in Bangkok. I just met someone special. I don't want to move away from my friends..."But as soon as I had that contract in my hand, I changed my tune.  "It's a huge opportunity.  The money is great. I get to live by the beach.  I can meet famous people (and sleep with them)"So I handed in my notice at Charley Brown's and tonight is my last official night here... (actually I will work on 31st of December too, because the new manager is out of Thailand at that time, and I'm a really nice guy!)Funny, but the new manager is also a TFer - http://www.thailandfriends.com/scotty21 Some of you may recognise him as Jesus from the Halloween party.  He's a nice young man from Seattle.  He plays guitar, piano and sings - I think he'll do really well here.  His first job will be to arrange my leaving party for TF people sometime in January.  Keep your eyes open for that one...

As for me, I start my new job on 5th January.  I'm based in Bangkok for the first month and travel down to Phuket occasionally.  Then in February I move down to Phuket and I hope to have the club open on 1st March... There's a lot of work to do - it's a big club and full of beautiful high tech stuff.  I've seen the drawings and it looks fantastic.  There will be plenty of top-name DJ's and special events - just as you'd expect from Bed.Of course, I'm going to be very busy and won't have so much time for forums and I'll miss reading the collective wisdom of TFers on a daily basis (it usually takes about 4 minutes).  But I'll look forward to seeing some of you down in the club next year sometime...Until then, English_Bob signing out and heading for new pastures.

Best of luck, David - and watch out down there for a bald old Guy called Ron. He's bloody dangerous. You plan to be home by a reasonable hour, and all he keeps on saying is "One for the road"

Good luck! :) All the best. Sounds interesting this new club in Phuket. You will definitely start there in very challenging times, let alone only month or two before the slow season will hit so...May your efforts be fruitful!
