'Bottom' used to mean 'valley' and so did 'hole'

'Wyre' meant 'stream' or 'small river'

The words changed their meanings over the years, but we kept the names.

Ramsbottom actually means 'valley of the wild garlic'... it just sounds like 'sheep's arse' now.
