The haunting voice of Liz Fraser with The Cocteau Twins. Formed in Grangemouth in 79/80, they took their name from a track by fellow Scots band 'Johnny and the Self Abusers' who later changed their name to Simple Minds).Fraser's lyrics were often indecipherable as she combined glossolalia (a sort of speaking in tongues usually seen in religious rites) with mouth music ( a traditional way of 'vocalising' music native to Scotland, Ireland and parts of Nova Scotia.Despite the lyrics never seeming to form words you know, Fraser's delivery and style captivates you, even when you can't understand her!!After Cocteau Twins, Fraser went on to perform vocals on tracks by Future Sound of London and Massive Attack as well as performing  "Lament for Gandalf" in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. 3 great tracks here showcasing her voice. First up Cocteau Twins with 'Heaven or Las Vegas', followed by This Mortal Coil with a superb cover of Tim Buckley's 'Song to the Siren' and finally Fraser on Massive Attack's 'Teardrop' with the superb accompanying video.

I always liked Fraser on Massive Attack's 'Teardrop', and of course "Lament for Gandalf" in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.
