A nice bit of cloud related music first! Meteorologists are seeking to bring in the first new cloud classification in half a century. The clouds, whipped into fantastic shapes and seemingly heralding a massive storm, have been seen all over Britain and in other parts of the world such as New Zealand.Experts at the Royal Meteorological Societ are no seeeking to classify them as 'asperatus' from the Latin word for 'rough'.Here are some great examples of this new cloud type._45849945_1janewiggins.jpg _45849946_2merrickdavies.jpg _45849947_3kenprior.jpg_45849948_4marthatenney.jpg _45849950_6richardhuntington.jpg _45849951_7trevorboult.jpg

Neo - what makes you think you are fake?? The pics were all taken in different locations by different people, and have been checked and accepted by the RMS. If you google 'asperatus', you will see them in a diverse range of on;line and offline publications.

It's obvious. All the clouds have hard edges and look *exactly* like a cloud texture map on a nurbs surface. Notice that no one has shot any video of this. So why, in all the history of the human race would this new CG looking phenomena turn up in the age of CG hoaxes? Because it's a hoax. ;-)

sorry Neo - I think you are wrong. If you were close to being right, it would be one of the biggest hoaxes perpetrated for many years. The Royal Meteorlogical Society are taking it to the world society for official clasification. Do you not think perhaps they have access to better equipment and scientists/experts than yourself??

And why, in the myriad of articles discussing these clouds, is there not 1 suggestion of it being a hoax? Other than from yourself? I am sorry, but I think in this case, Neo get's an F for fail!!

From Yahoo news:

"Some scientists are skeptical. They argue that researchers who have long watched the sky haven't seen anything distinctly new for decades.

...

But Pretor-Pinney, who **never studied meteorology**, believes the clouds merit their own cumulus sub-classification. He proposes they be called altocumulus undulatus asperatus. The last word ? Latin for roughen or agitate ? is a reference to the clouds' undulating surface."

Funny that all the pictures are from the Cloud Appreciation Society. This guy is obviously taking the mickey of the RMS. Mark my words ;-)

yes, but they are not saying the pics are hoaxes, only that they may not merit a new classification. And the pics are from various sources; from Iowa to Scotland. The CAS did NOT take all the pics.

They may not merit a new name, but they are not cg at all.

All the pics were supplied by Pretor Pinney. He claims they are from around the world. He is trying to convince the RMS they are real. With all the millions of digital cameras in the world today no one other than this guy has any examples to show? It would take about 10-15 minutes in Maya to make one of those pics. My money's on it being a hoax.

oh Neo - so so wrong. You are the one person who doubts the veracity of these pics. And fyi, the pics are NOT from Gavin Pretor Pinney - he is merely the spokesman for CAS!!

pic 1 is by Jane Wiggins

pic 2 is by Merrick Davies

pic 3 is by Ken Prior

pic 4 is by Martha Tenney

pic 5 is by Richard Huntington

pic 6 is by Trevor Boult

If you are going to argue, at least get your facts right!!!!

I never said they were from him, I pointed out that he's the one supplying the exact same list of photos to all the journo's and the RMS. Sure some of the supposed contributors have been contacted, I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to get a few friends in on the act. If you search online you'll find I'm not the only one who thinks they're most likely fake. BTW, the RMS are not experts in fake images, so it probably wouldn't be too hard to pull some woolly cloud over their eyes.

The reason so many people think they've seen something like this is because they have... in the movies! I could be wrong, but if so then god has started making clouds with photoshop.
