petey 0 Posted August 2, 2009 Report Share I am very impressed that you know about Grandmaster Flash. He and the Furious 5 were true pioneers of rap. Thanks for uploading this! :-) Link to comment
Stramash 11 Posted August 2, 2009 Report Share yes...Petey. You patronising git lol. GF plays UK a lot - was last in Glasgow few months back and I was dropping Sugarhill Record tunes back in 84!!! and if you are going to talk about pioneers, don't forget Sugarhill Gang themselves (first top 40 hip hop tune), Melle Mel etc, not to mention the true pioneers - people like Afrika Bambaata and The Last Poets and of course Kool Herc!!! pah!! we white men may not be able to jump, but we can still appreciate good beats'n'rhymes!!! petey 0 Posted August 2, 2009 Report Share LOL!!!! The comment was meant with the GREATEST amount of respect due(in a Bob Marley tone)! :-) You have no idea how many young boys I play ball with now that have NO clue about GF or the Sugarhill Gang or Kool Moe Dee or anyone from back in the day. How in the world can you listen to Hip Hop and not know who the Sugarhill gang is?? And who cares if white men can't jump, as long as they can shoot!!! :-) Link to comment
Stramash 11 Posted August 2, 2009 Report Share LOL funny thing is, I had a white skinhead friend about 18-20 years ago - part of SHARP (skinheads against racial prejudice) and also AFA (anti fascist action) He was about 20 stone and scary as hell - ended up in New York for 12 months teaching young black kids about political conciousness in rap music!!!! and yeah, kool moe dee was class too!!! Bushi 1 Posted August 2, 2009 Report Share It's like a jungle sometimes it makes me wonder, how I keep from going under. Classic. I was just listening to this on my ipod 2 days ago Link to comment
Stramash 11 Posted August 2, 2009 Report Share I did also mean to point out that this is not actually by GF and the Furious 5. It is actually Melle Mel who sings. GF and the rest of the Furious 5 TURNED DOWN recording this song and do NOT appear on the record at all!!! In fact, GF appeared on very few of the records they released - certainly not on 'The Message' or 'White Lines'. Mel was the true force behind the hits and garnered far more hits and award over the years!! Link to comment
