the day before yesterday. we were visiting Vatican city, after we finish see all the museum.

we walk around a bit and we decided to take a rest. so we choose the restaurant.

theres one restaurant, look good, and many ppl sit there. so we sit there and order our food...

after we check. the waiter bring us the bill, and when we saw it. yes, all that we order is there,

but below the bill. theres 10 euro more... Well of course we cant read Italian.

so we ask them whats that for 10 euro???

and he said Its for service 2.5 euro per person.....service???

what the hell is service is that... if you come 10m ppl you have to pay 25 euro??

My Bf ask for the menu, to recheck if they said in the menu..

But its nothing. no remark that we have to pay 2.5 euro each.

Coz actually for us when we went to any restaurant here we always pay 10 percent for the tips.

But for this restaurant.. No way... Why they made that ******* rule???

Thats rediculous..... so my Bf he took that bill and walk back to cashier...

and gave him money only for our food, and wont pay for whatever service that they include.

and you know they just said... Ok, its ok...

What da f##K ok??? so why they put that in there....

every restaurant that we went. they dont have that service.(ridiculous service)

they may include service charge. But thats Ok,,,

even Hard Rock cafe in Greece and Rome. They dont have service charge..

The hard rock cafe here in Rome so cool.. The waitress so nice...

Good service, So thats make us want to tip them, coz of the service.

not like bad service but still include the (whatever)service charge

I was worried, The family next to me.. Look like Japanese.they re like 6 or 7 ppl. God... lol

They have to pay for that for sure, i dont think they will refuse that..... hu,.

"Let the buyer beware"

It is up to the buyer to take care not to be ripped off.

By not being aware, or thinking, or checking, tourists can just make a problem worse for the next guy.

You did the right thing.

Well spotted.

(I would have also gone around every table in that restaurant and warned them....lol)

I take it you've never eaten in a restaurant in Thailand? 7% VAT, 10% Service in most. Obviously not on street stalls but in many of the restaurants. However, if it didn't say it on the menu, then you were very wise to do what you did. I'm happy to hear that you didn't have to pay.

20% is not the norm in America.

10% is the norm.

15% for most excellent service.

Not good service. Not good tip. Maybe no tip.

David tell me to post that.

In the US. me always did the 20% or i would not dare going back to the same restaurants again ^_^

In Thailand, me usually add a little extra on top of the already 17% for the hardworking waitresses.

Any service fee in a restaurant is a rip off. It should be included in the price in the menu. Anywhere else you buy things, the price you see is the price you pay.

Tips have gone up in US. Used to be 10 % but now 15- 20% but it always depends on the quaility of service. I don't mind tipping if the service is good.

Hmmm.. in some countries this is quite common that u have to pay a fee 'per place'... So not only for rip off tourists. Of course there should (and has to) be a note in the menue.

But hey, no need to complain, i told u before :-) You should have visited Munich instead. And if u believe it or not, in a real Beer garden here... ur even allowed to bring ur food, only have to buy the drinks and no service fee.

Yeah Unny, as an American here...believe me 10% is not the norm in US. If you tip 10% you will get an evil eye...15% is supposed to be the norm but as Sweetie said, it's closer to 20% as the accepted norm...

Unny glad you have a bf did not know that, anyway my itailent friends tell me that they put the charge in the summer season for tourists.

I would not protest to loud when you get down to Cicily if you know what i mean.

No not all countries do that only corrupt once.

When thai people say America they talk about USA... and in USA the norm is 15%. Just be aware that the rest of the countries in America -which are too many indeed- the norm varies from country to country. In many Latin America countries for example tips are lower than 15% (maybe between 5%-10%)

;)

I think UNNY got it right for the States...although I'd add ; 15% for a nice job , higher for excellent, 10% for marginal, inexcuseable...leave a penny they might get the message.

No matter how shitty the service is in the US. I'd tip 10%. 15% for okay job, nothing special. 18%-20% if you think the server working extra hard for you .. I usually would just double the tax which is around 18% ... But 10% is a bad tip and it's not normal ..
