Bkk Post: Bma's Cig Police
You don't read stuff like this often in the local press but it was good to see a newspaper actually do some investigative journalism to discover what everybody who regularly walks up and down lower Sukhumvit or near Benjasiri (and more frequently near MBK too) knows all too well. The Thai BMA completely look the other way as Thais flick cigarette butts on the sidewalk or throw trash but target foreigners (especially tourists) with a 2000 baht fine to be paid on the spot.
As you can see below, this is the page that comes up under the Bangkok Post's "Investigative Report." Not exactly a whole lot of hardcore investigations going on. Most are nothing more than current news where the author has done something more than simply repeat what some politician has said or reprint a press release.
So bravo to the Bangkok Post for publicly outing the cigarette police. Maybe with it out there for everyone to see someone will do something.
