Have a look at this new type of airline seat that is being shown at an Expo. It looks bloody uncomfortable.

That looks mighty uncomfortable. Do you know what the designers reasoning was behind it?

Are they trying to pass it off a comfortable seat or are they saying "yea, its uncomfortable but you dont need comfort for 2hours"?

It's called a saddle seat or something like that. They are promoting it for 1-3 hour flights to save some cash. Not a bad idea if you're strapped for cash and taking a short haul flight.

Much more difficult to join the mile high club in one of those, though...

Its for a new class, below economy. Seat pitch 23", so they can cram in more passengers, and therefore make more profit.
