From Mr. and Mrs. Japamerican (not exactly word for word, but gets the points out).

For the people who were affected by the flood, you are eligible to receive 5,000 baht. If your house was affected by the flood, you are eligible to receive 30,000 baht.

You must provide the following housing documents to your district government about your flood damage:

1.) Government issued ID card along with one photocopy

2.) House registration booklet along with photo ID copies of everyone listed on the registration booklet

3.) Pictures

--Pictures of the house while it is flooded including the number of the house

--Pictures inside of the house to show damages incurred within the house walls

--Pictures of the house after the flood has gone including the number of the house.

Please complete this quickly before the floods completely recede.

Just curious why this needs translated as it seems to be available only for Thais.

It's good to seem them helping but since farangs can't own land in Thailand the message is probably meant for Thais only.

Generally yes but I am happy to see this as I don't know if my wife has got this info. So I can tell her.

I think the amounts should be increased x10. Cheap ass government, as usual.

I actually think it's a reasonable amount. What I'm worried about is how many people will get turned down or given less than half of the amount when they are truly screwed.

Hmmmm.... your first point (reasonable amount): For some people it might be. For most I think not. As long as you were not able to save all of your stuff like furniture, electrical devices and so on (and I think many people could not, especially if they do not live in a two-storey-house), 30,000 is a nice sum but for sure does not cover the damage done. For instance, in our house, the built-in kitchen and the heavy furniture in the living room were affected. I will have to assess the damage first but as furniture nowadays is not made anymore of solid wood but of flake board, I'm afraid that there will be some substancial damage.

Your second point (people getting screwed) - well, I will come up to this once we have filed our claim :)

I am not talking here about the costs of cleaning (time, devices and materials) but as my wife wrote me, already one door is not closing properly anymore and the two showboards we had as room dividers are unusable. I am sure that some other stuff also will have been lost, especially in the store places we have and that could not be evacuated due to the lack of space upstairs and the nature of the things (my tool box for sure was too heavy for my wife to carry).
