I have seen 0 of the best picture nominee films :-) Seriously, not a one. I have Moneyball waiting to be seen but . . .

Sorry, I just can't support any awards body that doesn't nominate Hangover II for best picture.

Liked Nick Nolte in the Warrior, great movie about two brothers competing in MMA. Nick played their drunken father and nailed the part. Havent seen any of the other candidates.

@Skywarrior

doesn't Nick Nolte nail just about all his roles? IMHO he's an excellent actor. He's long overdue for an Oscar.

@Stramash

I haven't seen the Artist yet. It looks kinda like an artsie type of movie. I will have to check it out.

@Bill

Why is it that the Academy always seems to be outta touch with the populous oppinion on movies. I wonder what would happen if they based their oppinions on box office gross.

It never fails they always pick movies that I haven't seen yet. BTW I didn't know about the movie the Artist until like about a month ago when it was nominated.

Because the awards are voted on by members of the Academy vote on the winners. I think the ballots go out to something like 6,000 members.

Those are all actors, directors, producers, directors, etc. They're not exactly a representative sample of the movie-going public. It's a very insular community of people.

Also, the Oscar's tend to have a lot of politicking going on. I remember reading an article last week about how there are two publicity campaigns, one for the theatrical release of the film and one of the Oscars. Studios buying up ads in the trade mags, hiring PR agents to create a buzz in the film community, studios staging parties and special screenings, etc.

So, the people who vote on the winners are in a totally different world than the movie-going public. They're being influenced by ads, PR, etc that the average movie-goer doesn't even see.
