Its a shame about the UEFA cup being devalued so much...no way should teams getting knocked out of the Champions League be allowed into the UEFA Cup..Newcastle are still in it as are Celtic...Not really a supporter of either but its good to see British teams doing well in European competitions... I hope they can progress...

True about the UEFA Cup being undervalued. But what can you say about a competition that allows plaes 5-7 in some leagues to enter? The Final usually produces some cool results though. Remember Liverpool vs Alaves a few years ago? what a game!

Newcastle get a good 1-1 drwa away at Eindhoven with Kezman scoring and apparently putting in a good performance. He could well be playing for the barcodes next season as they are in for him...Looking good for Newcastle with an away goal though.

Celtic also draw 1-1 with Villareal (spelling?) but it is the Spanish side that has the away goal. Again it is Larssen who saves the day for them. When he goes at the end of the season they will seriously need to get someone good to replace him...I am sure he scores about 70% of all Celtics goals!!

Just goes to show the weakness of the Scottish league when their best team can't even beat the 5th best from Spain on home turf. I'm still against them & Rangers joining EPL caus they'd get slaughtered by the Birminghams and Middlesborough's of this world! Then they'd complain they want to go back to SPL...

Still hoping for a Celtic revival though since I dislike most Spanish teams.

They're just a bunch of damn fakers! And Spanish footbally is marginally more attractive than Italian football! Nah I just don't like how different leagues live by different rules governing non-EU players, and the Spanish leagues always supplement themselves with cheap young south americans while the British league's gotta live with their home grown ones who would never compete. And its caus of that, that La Liga claims to be the best league on earth when i n reality when you take away their non-EU players we see a whole different story.

I have to say that I am not too familiar with the rules governing non EU players in Spain. How many non EU players can they field? I remember the time that Chelsea played a tem with no British players in it...11 foreigners!! Ironic for a team who's fanbase have links with far right white extremist groups.

Non-EU residents are not allowed to play in Britain unless they have a work permit and to obtain one of those they must have played in at least 75% of their country's internationals over the past year or show that they have clearly cemented their place in the International squad. Teams also aren't allowed to field more than 3 at the same time.

On the continent teams are restriced to 5 non-EU players on their rosters with no work permit restrictions.

With EU players being evenly spread over teams in Europe, its the non-EU players that make the difference since South Americans are generally more mature at the same age as their European counterparts and probably have played more senoir games as well - ala Requime and Saviola at Barcelona. Take away these 2 players and Barca is in a relegation battle.

i know the restircions in Britain...a couple of players at Spurs have been refused work permits cuz of not appearing in 75% of international games for their respective countries. I dodnt realise it was the lax is Spain though...no work permit restictions?? is that right?

There was the scandal of some players being banned or at least investigated due to passpprt iregularities. I am sure Verson was one of those players when he was at Lazio.

Re: Barcelona..dont forget Ronaldinho too. or deoes he have a EU passport? I think he has been the main reason for them going on a good run.

Yeah some teams especially on the continent were giving South Americans EU passports so they could sign another one and go over the 5 limit. Ronaldinho I left out caus he would've legitimately qualified for a work permit in Britain.

Seriously those guys on the Continent can sign any 17 year old prodigy they want and shove him into the first team with no restrictions! Just look at players who're making huge differences for their teams yet aren't a part of their national squads:

Giovanni Elber

Pablo Aimar

Javier Saviola & Juan Roamn Requime

Aldo Duscher

man the list goes on...you shoul dplay more Champ Manager and learn the rules!

I purposely stay away from CM as i fear that if i get it i would never get out!! You can fritter away days on that game....I was on the pS2 last night playing Winning Eleven 6. Tried to win the Asis Cup with Australia...i beat S.Korea in the semis and then i was playing Saudi Arabia in the final. 2 drawn games and it just quits the comp...so i didnt lose but i didnt win either...what a waste of time...

Viduka was quite good in this game...i think he is a wanker in real life though. So...how many hours are you playing CM a day/week/month then??

Man I used to kill off nearly 8 hours a day on CM! as soon as I got home from work I'd be on the PC, sometimes not even eat! Finally pulled myself off that addiction though thankgoodness!

Don't want to get onto PS2 games...they're even more addictive! I spent a month on holidays on Oz just playing FFX!

Try the Winning Eleven 7 (International) and it's awesome, the moves, the players and everything are so realistic. I remember after the World Cup final in 2002, I forced my mates to do a World Cup (with all group matches and playoffs) on Winning Eleven and we did not finish until 5am in the morning! This game is definitely poisonous in the sense that it's so addictive!

I have just re-installed my laptop and so far no games...but i have a PS2 in my room which i have Winning Eleven...the chipped through ball and the chipped 1-2's are defence splitting!! But nothing quite beats a goal scored from a cross, either a volley or a header!! I love those ones!!

Been trying to give WE a break recently but i went by my bros house and found the stockpile of PS2 games we bought ages ago...Got Tekken 3 which i used to paly loads...Wnat to get back into that and also GTA...the addicition is returning!

I am actually a bit upset that Celtic did not make it through cos' I do think Larsson is a quality player with lethal finishes. At least the Geordies made it and Robson is the man! It does give me fond memories of the Gary Lineker's last minute goal against Germany in the World Cup semi-final. I have full respect for Lineker cos' try to name a player who has never been booked in his whole career. Well, this excludes those who are always on the bench and never get to play! ;)

I gotta get hold of Tekken 4 then. I love that game. I used to play all the time with Law and Bruce!! Anyone played GTA Vice CIty? I am wondering to give that a go tonight but i really cannot afford to spend too much time on the PS2 these days so i try to avoid the addicvite games!
