tallboyno1
The people is number one to me...everything from there on just fits into place Agree 100% that the most important factor is the people of a country. For me it?s the most important thing that distinguishes different countries with more or less the same conditions.

DJTX
I read the original entry and thought "well that will be easy to answer". Then I started thinking about it. It's really hard to say any one or two things. Comes down to 'everything".
funfarang
agree with that , if i start a list of what i like in thai culture i might forget so many it is thailand as a whole. but i agree that the sawasdeekha and the wai have an indeniable charm. might add the traditional costumes , the way thais enjoy to party all the time and on all occasions ( ever been to the candle festival in Ubon?), the thai movie scene that starts to take off internationally, the marvellous history and temples and so many more things that makes thailand such a special place to live in. to contrabalance, there is one thing i despise in thai culture: the ugly MODERN architecture in most thai towns. please please open more achitecture schools in thailand so that the country get some stylish towns instead of the current concrete blocks of shophouses. sorry if i offended some people , but its a true feeling from my heart regards Erawan
Franck1972
What I like the most about thai people, is their ability to think positiv, to be able to smile even if the situation is tough. I guess we could see it after the tsunami, people could show how strong they can be and tried their best to face the situation. I also like the fact that thai have a strong identity / culture. Moreover, like in Japan, I like this mix of interest in high technologies without losing their traditions. I mean, they might like a product from another country, without embracing or being influenced by this country. Well, Thailand is a country that doesn't look like another, it's so unique, and that might be the reason why I like it so much.

People really listened to me when I taught them and I felt like I was truly blessed as a teacher for once. I LOVE the respectful focus on CULTURE and I feel that my native country is lacking in culture. I've lived in a few Asian countries and Thailand is my favorite. I also love the non-judgemental nature of the people I met-Thais did not strike me as being arrogant or racist at all, and I had the odd bad experience with Asian racism toward other Asians that turned me off to some countries. Thai children seemed wonderful to me. Obviously, Thai food is amazing, but even if I disliked it I'd love Thailand. The beauty of the environment is especially wonderful for me as I come from a country with an 8 month long winter. I also enjoy the Buddhist nature of Thailand. Miss you darling Tor! inamorato25
Beaches, beers, babes...Too many things to mention, but I'll mention two. First, the people. There are a few Starbucks I tend to do my writing in when I'm in BKK -- all of the staff knew me by my first name after the first 2 visits. One staff would walk by, ask me what I was doing -- and after that, it was like we were all old friends. One of the staff even remembered my name months later when I saw her working at the SB in Emporium. In Japan, on the other hand, I go to the same shops and restaurants all the time -- Ice cold, formal greetings is about all you get. I love the warmth in Thailand. No -- Thai people are not always warm and cuddly -- just try ordering at a restaurant on Koh Samet -- good luck getting a reaction, a smile, or even food!.. Which is another Thai quality I like:) The people are quite sincere. If they don't like you, they don't like you. Period. If they do, they do. Second, I like the range of service in Thailand. YOu can buy cheap (but still good), or pay a bit more and get red carpet. Case in point: going to a movie. In Japan, you pay between 400 - 1000 Baht, depending on the time of day, and if you get a "couple seat" which are two regular seats with no arm rest between. Same s4it, different shovel. In Thailand, you can pay for a regular movie, or you can shell out a bit more for the executive class at SIAM, get free snacks, a reclining leather massage chair, a pillow and blanket and even socks! That basic-level but good, up to red-carpet frills range of options is something that is really nice about the lifestyle in Thailand.
PaulUK2005
The laid backness of thais, their friendly nature, the food especially (thai food is seriously the best i have ever tasted) and the wai. This is such a unique thing that thais do
JimnT
The beauty of the temples, and as I learn more about it, Buddhism. The general 'live and let live' attitude. The food. I ate Thai food for twenty years before I traveled to Thailand. Traditional Thai massage. I love the apparent structural simplicity of the language, at least at the level at which I speak it (like a baby). The attempt to make everything 'sanuk'. Playwright
I have travelled to so many countries I have lost count; but Thailand along with Ireland, Cambodia and Cuba are my favourite. In Ireland I love the conversation and humour. In Cuba I love the energy and artistry. In Thailand and Cambodia I love the friendliness and gentleness of the people. I think that in Thailand Buddhism and respect for monarchy have a very beneficial effect on the culture and on the people. I like the Thai concept of face because it leads to courtesy and consideration for others? feelings. Some people say "face" is hypocritical, since when is courtesy hypocritical? Thank you Thailand and the Thais for helping to make the world a good place to live in. I hope to return many times. I also love the climate too, the beaches and the scenery.
