FarangFarang Posted January 23, 2012 Report Share Posted January 23, 2012 Police on Monday arrested five suspects over the confrontation between two groups of youths that led to a wild car chase, shots being fired and a double crash in which five people died and five others were injured in Bangkok's Rat Burana district.The suspects arrested were Warut Paladej, 23, Saksit Wannapahul, 20, and three minors, whose name were witheld, Metropolitan Police chief Winai Thongsong said on Monday. Another suspect still at large was identified as Weerayuth Jaroonrueang. He was accused by his friends of firing shots at the other group in a pickup before the fatal crash. Police said they were told Mr Weerayuth and five others had gone to a well-known pub on Rama III road on Friday. A confrontation started when he and some of his friends went to the pub’s toilet and had a quarrel with another group of people. The dispute almost escalated into a brawl with fists raised and liquor bottles brandished as weapons.. New Krongthong, 20, who was with one group, earlier told police he and nine friends went to the pub in a pickup and the confrontation started when his friends and Mr Weerayuth’s group glared at each other as they were leaving the venue. He said the suspects chased the pickup in a Honda sedan. The sedan was allegedly driven by Mr Warut. It was alleged Mr Weerayuth fired many shots from a handgun at the pickup as the chase went from Somdej Phrajao Taksin Road and ended at the mouth of Soi Suk Sawat 23, where the pickup careened off the road, slammed into a tree and bounced off into the path of the sedan. Five people were flung from the pickp and three died on the spot. Two others died later in hospital. The five dead were all aged between 18 and 23 years old. ‘’Police will arrest Mr Weerayuth, the alleged shooter, as soon as possible.
