Young lovers are among the keenest age groups planning to lose their virginity on Valentine's Day, Feb 14, according to a survey released by the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday.

The survey revealed that 15.4 percent of teen lovers aged 16-18 were planning to have sex for the first time with their partners on the day that celebrates love, while 12.5 percent of those aged 19 to 22 have the same thing on their minds. Those aged 23-29 (16 percent) were also planning to take the plunge.

The poll showed 71.4 percent of lovers aged under 15 had no plan to share moments of tender intimacy with their partners, 18.5 percent said they had not decided, and 7.4 percent said they were positive.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is the politician most teenagers want to give a red rose to on Valentine's Day, followed by Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, the poll said.

Meanwhile, the Department of Disease Control has launched a safe-sex campaign for teenagers on Valentine's Day. The campaign is called "Safe Love - Condoms Can Handle It".

Public Health officer Wattana Rojjanavichitrakul said people can show their love and affection.

But teenagers might express their love inappropriately and end up having premature sex. As a result, they might expose themselves to sexually transmitted diseases, he said.
