Visit Germany.

Specifically, Trier - birthplace of Karl Marx.

http://www.travelforkids.com/Funtodo/Germany/trier.htm

"This was also Karl Marx's birthplace ? so of course there's a Karl Marx Museum in the house, a Trier baroque c. 1727, where his family lived when he was born. The house itself is one of the most beautiful in the city, and has a wonderful garden ? but the exhibits are as dry as Marx's writing: it may just be a photo-op."

The chinese certainly seem to think it's interesting.

film festivals are rarely free anywhere, but STCL is right about venice and cannes. these are two of the most important film festivals on the planet (especially to filmmakers). cannes is in late spring/early summer and i believe venice is in summer.

if you do end up in the Northern Countries With Terrible Food like the netherlands and germany, then there are two great film festivals in the winter--rotterdam and berlin.

rotterdam is my favorite film festival on the planet (havent been to them all though). rotterdam is good for filmmakers, tends to favor artsy films, have a real mix of films from all over, and attract a lot of the locals as opposed to just film industry people, so it's one of the more fun for filmmakers.

but dutch food, generally, is something to be feared. hopefully you can find decent belgian restaurants, there's lots of them, and indonesian as well.

Unless you enjoy looking out of train/bus windows for hours on end :P I would stick to the countries with the most to offer : France;Spain and Italy. All you want is there from the chateaux of the Loire valley (trust me....you will be moved by them) to the famous Murillo Gardens in Seville.Cities of Paris,Venice ,Firenze ,Rome ,Barcelona etc etc all full of culture..Islands like Sardinia and Corsica,Mallorca,Sicily....are full of wild open spaces , mountains(+volcanoes),ancient Greek ruins (Sicily ) and great beaches(all). .Food wise well you got 3 of the worlds top 5 cuisines....French,Italian and Spanish.Whether vegetarian or seafood......you are spoilt for choice .Just get a Eurail youth pass and voila :D

film festivals ...well Venice and Cannes are the obvious ones.Maybe hard to get tickets though. But sure you can check online for others.

Woodstocks...well UK is the best choice but thats not on your list so maybe you could check out an *oom pa pa oom pa pa * festival in Bavaria

...... someone's future Sugar Dada .... 8)

PS. ... you forget to mention ... "Capri" & "Santorini" ...

I think you can enter CH with your schengen visa.. but you may need to get stamp with the Swiss Embassy in TH first.. It's easy if you already have schengen visa... I'm not so sure but just in case you wanna visit there.

no clue about where to go... I like castles/church and those old architecture but seem you dont..

Forget about Spanish cooking. It doesn't belong in a top 5.

French and Italian, alright, but if you're into Thai taste, you'll have trouble appreciating the amount of cheese and butter, as well as trouble discovering any taste whatsoever before you drop the pepper bottle in it.

Anyway if you're on a budget, forget about any decent food altogether.

They've got haalthy salads ;-)

Modern Spanish cooking is getting rave reviews, but for what I do not know. Squid ink as a culinary ingredient seems as plausible as gunpowder in a protien shake to me. You can not go wrong eating anything in France or Italy, but for cheap stuff get bread, cheese and salads from the grocer's. I'd skip Northern Europe completely due to the weather, the expense (warm clothes, longer and more frequent travel times) and the dearth of what you are looking for. Depending on how long you have and your budget, stick to warmer Euro countries in the winter. Seeing all that you would like to in Italy alone could take months. Def. stop by Barcelona, not a place like it on the planet.

It's a difficult question, since I don't know how much time you have (1 or more countries?) and my personal interests differ a lot. If I had to select one option for you to do your list in one week or so (which you shouldn't), I'd suggest going to the south of France in the summer.

Generally, the northern countries are more expensive than the southern ones, you'll be somewhere in the middle. France has the weirdest kinds of food's, I don't know about vegetarian, but they'll eat anything that moves (and plants move also). Weather is nice and nature is very beautiful there.

You could visit Paris then, I'll bet you'll enjoy the Rodin museum. Lots of famous dead people there also, you can pick your favorite yourself on Pere Lachaise Cemetery, which is famous for the famous dead people there. I can't decide on a nice house of one them for you though  (you're a funny girl).

And I'd plan a trip to a 'nearby' city along the way, Barcelona in Spain or Milano in Italy, to get to see another country as well.

Finally, most festivals I know of are in the summer, most of these countries have 'em (Luxembourg?), but I don't know any free ones...

Hope this helps.
