Sneezing indicates that the Devil has reached your name in his large book of sinners. Unless someone says "God Bless/Gesundheit/prosit", he'll mark down your latest sins... And with enough marks in the book, eternal damnation and red hot pokers up your behind awaits you :shock:

At least that what they said in medieval times.

The moral: Don't forget to add a God Bless whenever someone sneezes (unless you want him or her to burn in Hell, that is 8) )

During the 17th century, sneezing was associated with contracting the bubonic plague (the great plague). It is where the children's nursery rhyme comes from....

Ring a ring a roses (a sign of the plague was a red rash in the shape of a ring)

Pocket full of poses (herb carried to ward off the plague)

It is also where the tradition of saying 'Bless you' when someone sneezes comes from. You blessed the person in the hope that the sneeze wasnt the sign of the plague....

Be careful? You can't get it from a sneeze. Sneezes are mostly saliva and you'd need to ingest several litres of saliva to have any chance of contracting aids. So yes, be careful if you're in the habit of inhaling several litres of saliva from stranger's sneezes.

So we have satan and his list, evil spirits being thrust out, evil spirits being kept out, bubonic plague, flu, colds, and whatnot... good luck, bad luck etc

I think to summarise, it is simply not healthy to be around people who are sneezing as you may catch or ingest one or more of the above ills...

I have also heard of some medical condition (probably another urban myth though) that some women suffer from where they have an orgasm every time they sneeze... and I hear that the treatment is the regular use of pepper...
