Giving sex-change hormones to children

I recall reading somewhere that one reason why Thai ladyboys are so convincing as females is that many take hormones from a very early age, sometimes even from the age of 3 or 4.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

And if true, under what circumstances would Thai parents give their son hormones to make him a ladyboy? Since at such a young age he certainly wouldn't be able to make an informed decision about becoming a transexual.

In the West this would be considered very strange - if not outright child abuse.

A few of my friends are gay or lesbian. And I've asked the frank question, "When did you know you were gay?". The answer is almost universal. None can remember the age except that virtually all of them say that they "always knew". Yes, I think it is possible that even someone of a very young age would know that they were gay. Why? That's an answer I can't provide, nor could they.

In my opinion gays or lesbians have nothing to see with transgenders. Like Piant said gays and lesbians are quite happy (just like hetero's) with what they have. Transsexuals are feeling and thinking and beinig a woman captured in the wrong body and the other way around a man in a woman's body. They never feel happy with their body (don't think about travesty that's still another thing). That's the main reason why they do a sex change surgery.

I know a man quite close here in Belgium, who did the operation yrs ago and is very happy with the change, she has now a partner for years already and is perfectly happy.

Is this a windup? I think what you are hearing about parents giving their kids sex change hormones must be unfounded. A wild tale if there ever was one.

No reputable doctor here would participate in such a thing. And any parent administering hormones to their child would be putting his or her health at extreme risk.

Neighbors, friends, teachers and others would obviously see what's going on through the physical changes in the child and tell others. Then it would turn into a big news story: "Parents force kids to take sex change hormones!"

Yet, we've never seen any such stories.

Furthemore, Thai parents are like any other parents. They don't want their kids to grow up to be ladyboys. They may accept them if they do, but they wouldn't help induce it.

As for drugs to kids that is moraly wrong. Any parent that does that to their children should be lynched. I agree with lomburt any good docter would not administer hormone drugs to children. But as seeing as how anyone anywhere could get any kind if drug they wanted off of the black market it could happen. All I know if you are gay etc. It is their choice and it happens who is to judge them for that? Not I for sure hell I have gay friends they just know the whole don't think about it routeine.

I wasn't trying to wind anybody up, just ask a question in hopes that someone knew more about the subject than I do.

I remember reading an article in which a Thai doctor doing gender reassignment surgery commented that the reason why Thai transexuals are usually more "succesful" at becoming women than their western counterparts is the use of hormones at an early age. Also remember some ladyboys i met tellling me that they had natural boobs cuz of the early age they started on hormones.

But unless theres some1 on this forum (hopefully thai) that has more info on the topic i guess we wont know for sure

Here you are, one link to your question.

quote

Bangkok - Thai boys as young as 10 intent on having sex changes are buying and using over the counter female hormones in an early bid to smooth their transition to womanhood, a leading surgeon said on Friday.

Dr. Preecha Tiewtranon, considered Thailand's godfather of sex re-assignment surgery has helped pioneer the process 25 years ago, said youngsters routinely acquired oestrogen and other hormones available without prescription in the kingdom, which has emerged as a world leader in the swelling cosmetic surgery industry.

"They have been taking hormones from a young age... sometimes 10 years old," Preecha told reporters at Bangkok's BNH Hospital, where he was conducting a sex change operation on Friday at a workshop of dozens of international doctors in the field.

Little googling and your questions might have been answered. Happy extra information hunting. Other places quoted teenagers buying hormones. But maybe your memory doesnt serve you correct and the age you are remembering is confused with this 10+ years? Because maybe anyway it is naturally, so to speak, start slowing or prohibiting the puberty effect from kicking in of normal sex hormones...dunno

Nor would I... lots of very young and very feminine (looking) Khatoeys in Pattaya.... some only around 18 but appear to be full on post op's.. Don't know but would imagine many of them started taking hormones very early.. either at the onset of puberty or before.. Homone pills are freely available over the counter and I'm sure there are plenty of older transexuals to give them advice etc....

this is gonna sound horrible, but....some kids study sciences, others arts...I assume this is a career choice made at a very early age.

human development is more complicated than that when it comes to gender differentiation.

the 'default' is female. add a y chromosome and you will add the testosterone that later floods the system and makes a boy a boy, but it's uphill all the way. if there is no y chromosome and only one x, then you got a girl. however, other combinations produce weird results, including varrying degrees of hermaphrodite, as do hormonal imbalances for other reasons, in the womb or later.

in other words, chances are with khatoeys, they don't choose their career--it chooses them. so guys, next ladyboy you meet, be respectful, and think "there but for the grace of testosterone, go i."
