Terak

Probably a basic question but can somebody tell me what 'terak' or 'teerak' means? Is it something like 'darling' ? I see it being used sometimes by girls addressing their bf. Does it have a special meaning? Can boys also use it to their gf? Is it a certain type of persons who would use it (like bargirls or so?). Just curious...

I asked that in the future, when a word in phoenetic form is asked about, when responding, please write the word in Thai as well. Thereafter, example provided.
