grezzzy_greer
I was reminded about the existence of these odd little sayings and "laws" when reading the weekly World Wide Words newsletter. Finagle's Constant "An ad hoc mathematical device inserted into a formula to make the answer come out right." Murphy's Law "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong and at the worst possible moment." Finagle's Law "Once a job is fouled up, anything done to improve it makes it worse". So I was wondering - what other "odd laws" do you know, and are there equivalent or similar in Thai? (If so, please translate if possible). The Editor of World Wide Words is a chap called Michael Quinion - and if you are interested in the origin and meanings of words, I recommend his newsletter, or a visit to the website - you can subscribe for free at the link below. or even help keep it free by making a completely voluntary donation. So the mods or others don't get worried about copyright material - Mr Quinion allows its use in part or in full on free boards like this, as long as we include the following: World Wide Words is copyright © Michael Quinion 2008.
