Should Thais have their own Thai-English style?

Hi,

in my opinion you ought to learn the language from native speakers and preserve the language. What would be your benefit if you created a Thai-English - style ?

A couple of months ago I met a couple from Canada. They must have been from Quebec area. Their french was rather strange to me. Far away from spoke french in France, in a way old-fashioned and lots of expressions that are no longer in use in France or special canadian-french. It was very hard for me to understand.

So again, what is the benefit ? Seems like warriors assaulting the Tower of Babel..

Cheers

Ray

I agree that it is not always a good thing to artificially create a language style. Rays mention of the archaic components of the French speakers he met reminds me of time I spent recently in India - some of the expressions they use made me feel as if I was in the 1950's or 60's...

Language evolves, and the English spoken by Thai people will evolve as well - it isn't something that can be made to happen, because the language comes from the users, not usually from linguists.

Esperanto is a good example of an international "designer language" that was doomed from the start - unsurprisingly it failed to catch on - it was a mongrel to begin with - so it was never going to work - and thus far, it hasn't.

It is known as a "constructed international auxiliary language" - and claims figures of between 100,000 and 2 million users - not exactly a roaring success...

My point is that artificially constructing, or attempting to construct a language or a version of a language (such as Tinglish), will simply not work. Let the masses build it out of common usage...

hmm for me Tinglish is cute and funny I like to make joke around... create funny words and pharse...but to talk with my friends and my family.

But talking with my foreigner friends or writing mails I tried to talk in English, I do my best.

My point of view.. I like Thai is Thai, English is English.

Why not? There's no reason why Thais shouldn't have their own version of English.

After all, all native speakers have.

Although they try and teach Thais the proper version of what English is supposed to be if everyone had perfect pronunciation, grammar and intonation, it doesn't mean that they do it. Damn, none of us do it! They just get it from the book. Yes the same book you have in front of you when you go for English classes.

Most farang talk the biggest load of bollocks you've ever heard! Try asking 90% of farang what a noun is and the answer you'll get is that she lives in a convent doesn't she?

Just use English the way you want to and if any cheeky tw*t arrogant farang says you said something wrong, tell him to shut the f*ck up and to p*ss off.

totally agree ,who gives a **** as long as the communication is understood.if everybody spoke perfect english(whatever that is) by the book it would be pretty bloody boring, and actually quite ludicrous.language should and does constantly evolve otherwise we would still be just grunting at each other.who was the person who elected himself to tell others how things should be said?

actually i think youll find noun is midday.
