When I was studying Thai of course my teacher taught me how to spell my name in Thai. But when I listened to Thai people pronounce "Mike" (ääì) it was always with a high tone which was not natural and kinda irritating to my ears. So the more I studied the written language, I decided that if I spelled it "ÃѤì" the sound would be more natural and closer to the real pronunciation in English. So I asked my teacher if I could spell it this way, and explained my logic to her. Her reply was, "Yes, you can. But please never tell ANYONE that I was your teacher!!!" She made her point.
