I don't know if they are ladyboy friendly or not but there were a few hanging out in and around the clubs...no one seemed to think anything of it or make a big deal of it.

I lived in KL for 3 years in early 90's. Its changed a lot since then, but there are still many things to see/do there.

I wont bang on about things you can simply look up in a Lonely Planet guidebook, but there are some great places to eat or experience I want to mention...

The 1st one is a very famous KL restaurant called The Coliseum (its a hotel too). Its a bit of an institution and has a **** load of history too. I think its been done up and a bit more commercial since I went last though. It was one of the first hotel in KL built in 1921 and some of the staff have worked there all their lives! If you look around you may still see bullet holes in some walls from the old tin mining days. lol

Its a damn classic.

Anyway, its on Jalan TAR (jalan means street) in the middle of the city.

Also try to go see Batu caves just outside the city. This is where they have the massive procession up the stairs to the temple where all the incredible body piercing and mutilation takes place.

Chinatown is worth a visit too.

woo-hoo! now i think of it there IS quite a lot to do... especially eating if you like India, cantonese, Malay, Nyonya Baba (curry laksa and pandan based foods etc), or Indonesian foods...

On the issue of ladyboys, I dont think its a real problem. Actually one the past Miss Malaysias was found out to be a ladyboy in the late 80's. Thats caused a stir at the time...hahah

One of my concern is that it is still a Muslim oriented country which sodomy is considered a crime, despite the similarity with the Singapore which i have been visited. I am not quite sure what's the rule there. Is this a wrong question to ask? :P

I wouldn't worry about it at all. Just go out there, have fun, and um...keep everything behind closed doors ;)

As a toursit visitor you will find Kl to be one of the most liberal and easy going Muslim centres in the world. Dont sweat about it.

it's a long hike up those batu cave steps...and be careful of the monkeys

they're nice and cuddly if you feed them

but when two or more are targeting the banana in your hand, they can get a bit....testy

they had Christmas decoration up all over while I was there in Novemember and December of 2006. The Muslim thing is downplayed or not in your face in KL. According to a friend of mine (Chinese Christian), the countryside is more religiously fired than KL. KL is fairly moderate and fairly mixed. Lots of Hindu and Chi-Christian.

KL is nice but pretty boring.I guess 3 days is more than enough to see everything. As mentioned above Batu Caves is worth a visit. If you can learn the prayer time before you go and be there during the ceremony its better.Petronas towers are also good but you need to have your name written in the visitors list i guess so you should do that early.Nightlife scene is much tamer than BKK, but i had seen many ladyboys around. There are 2 streets night life is centered. One is near to petronas towers.I forgot the other one but mostly indian clients when i was there.I suggest you to avoid Beach Club because its nothing but a pick up joint.Rum Jungle is a decent bar at the same street. There are also many bars and pubs hosted by hotels.

Food and taxis are a bit expensive comparing to Thailand but still cheap for western standarts.Alcoholic drinks are insanely expensive because of sin tax.Learning ladies night days may save quite money if you are a drinker.

the main attraction is at Bukit bintang(?) street. Its like the heart of KL.High so kind of place. Also the street behind Bukit bitang has many food courts and restaurants.I like malaysia foodwise because they have indian-thai-malay-chinese cousine and many more.Foodwise malaysia is more versatile than thailand.

KL is heaven of shopping malls.KLCC Suria is the most famous i guess. There are countless shopping malls and they are huge.Lots of expensive brands. There is also an underwater tunnel in KLCC suria, not bad.
